which was conducted at the end of January 2019 &#8211; asked 8,885 people which mobile brand they currently used.<\/p>\n<p>36% (3,160) of respondents said that they currently use a Samsung, followed closely by Huawei with 28% (2,521) and Apple with 19% (1,652).<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Smartphone-poll.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-297088 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Smartphone-poll.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"327\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Smartphone-poll.png 327w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Smartphone-poll-190x300.png 190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 327px) 100vw, 327px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This data dovetails with the most recent data released by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/296354\/these-are-the-best-selling-smartphone-brands-in-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Counterpoint<\/a><\/strong>, which found that Samsung, Apple and Huawei were the three best-selling smartphone brands in the world.<\/p>\n<p>However, both Samsung (-6% YoY growth) and Apple (-15% YoY growth) ceded significant ground to Huawei which saw growth of 46% YoY.<\/p>\n<p>Counterpoint expects this growth to continue for the Chinese manufacturer as it continues to focus in markets outside of China.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Huawei.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-296360\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Huawei.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"863\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Huawei.png 863w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Huawei-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Huawei-768x291.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 863px) 100vw, 863px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Huawei in SA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Huawei has already made a big splash in the South African market, with the company stating that it had officially overtaken Apple in market share in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/294132-we-will-dominate-the-entire-south-african-smartphone-market-huawei.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MyBroadband<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Huawei South Africa CTO Akhram Mohamed said that the company was now\u00a0setting its sights on the top position across all pricing segments in the local market.<\/p>\n<p>Mohamed said the strong performance of Huawei\u2019s smartphones across the board could result in the company reaching this goal by the end of 2019 or 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2018, Huawei was either number one or number two in every pricing segment,&#8221;
