While ANC<\/a> deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa<\/a>\u00a0 has announced his intention to step down from the boards of Lonmin<\/a> and Mondi<\/a>, there is no word on his position at MTN Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Platinum producer\u00a0Lonmin, said on Wednesday (23 January) that Ramaphosa would step down as a non-executive director at the end of January.<\/p>\n

Further, in a SENS statement also on Wednesday, packaging and paper group\u00a0Mondi noted that Ramaphosa had advised the group of his intention to resign from his positions as joint chairperson and as a non-executive director at the Annual General Meetings of Mondi Limited and Mondi plc on May 3.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa said in December, that owing to his election to the position of ANC deputy president at the ANC\u2019s 53rd National Conference in Mangaung\u201a he had initiated a review of his interests in business.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa is independent non-executive director and chairman of MTN Group and is also chairman of Bidvest Group<\/a>. He also sits on the board of brewer, SAB Miller<\/a> and Standard Bank Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When BusinessTech questioned MTN whether there had been any further communication with Ramaphosa on his position, the group said that its statement made at the end of last year still stands.<\/p>\n

“The MTN Group Board will consider these latest developments, in consultation with the chairman, in due course”, said Paul Norman<\/a>, MTN Group chief\u00a0 HR and corporate affairs officer.<\/p>\n

Last week in an interview, the ANC figurehead\u00a0assured business that he is committed to addressing any potential conflicts of interest between his role as\u00a0ANC<\/a>\u00a0deputy president, and his many businesses.<\/p>\n

In an interview on CNBC Africa, he said that the process of assessment and review is underway, adding that he will be issuing a statement \u201cas we move along\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt may take some time, but what I want everyone to be rest assured of, is that we are going to be dealing with it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
