{"id":30606,"date":"2013-01-28T11:19:53","date_gmt":"2013-01-28T09:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=30606"},"modified":"2013-01-28T13:00:22","modified_gmt":"2013-01-28T11:00:22","slug":"mvne-plans-to-disrupt-mobile-market-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/30606\/mvne-plans-to-disrupt-mobile-market-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"MVNE plans to disrupt mobile market in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new company called <a title=\"MVNE\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7048-Mvne\">MVNE<\/a> (Mobile Virtual Network Enabler) has been created to explore opportunities in the South African telecommunication environment.<\/p>\n<p>The company is headed by a small team of experienced industry players, which include former <a title=\"Virgin Mobile\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4694-Virgin-Mobile-South-Africa\">Virgin Mobile<\/a> CIO, <a title=\"Zak van de Merwe\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7049-Zak-van-de-Merwe\">Zak van de Merwe<\/a> (Chief Operations Officer at MVNE).<\/p>\n<p>According to MVNE, it has a good understanding of the opportunities within the South African market, and will be \u201cfocusing on creating value in certain well-defined segments in the near-term and will enable MVNOs [mobile virtual network operator]\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Van de Merwe explained on his LinkedIn profile that MVNE is a \u201cstartup venture aimed at enabling established South African brands in offering their existing and new customers complex mobile services and solutions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that the company has access to \u201cvery interesting technology solutions spanning the entire mobile value chain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>MVNE has not revealed a launch date yet, but the company is already working with relevant partners and suppliers to define a strong eco system.<\/p>\n<p>MVNE said that it will make official announcements around the nature of the initiative, the broader team and its offerings, business model and timing of its entrance into the market as soon as its eco system is ready.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s website current displays only its logo, with the message \u201cMVNE&#8230;Disrupting soon&#8230;\u201d as the page title.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">More mobile articles<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"World Bank takes swipe at SA mobile prices\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/30428\/world-bank-takes-swipe-at-sa-mobile-prices\/\"><strong>World Bank takes swipe at SA mobile prices<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mobile voice the next price war -
