{"id":306272,"date":"2019-03-23T13:00:25","date_gmt":"2019-03-23T11:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=306272"},"modified":"2019-03-25T16:18:42","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T14:18:42","slug":"this-is-how-much-it-costs-to-register-a-patent-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/306272\/this-is-how-much-it-costs-to-register-a-patent-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"This is how much it costs to register a patent in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of 1 July 2019, the official fees payable on South African patents, registered designs, and patent and design applications will be significantly increased for corporate entities.<\/p>\n<p>According to law firm ENSAfrica, there will be a separation between \u201ccorporate\u201d entities and SMEs in terms of these fees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most significant official fee increase will be a once-off fee increase that will apply to the filing of new patent and design applications and to renewal fees,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In particular, in regard to the increase in renewal fees for patents and designs, the new official fee for corporate entities, which is payable annually, is a hefty increase compared with the current sliding scale of fees depending on the annuity due.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In addition, all other official fees will increase by 5% from 1 July 2019.
