{"id":308326,"date":"2019-04-01T14:53:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T12:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=308326"},"modified":"2019-04-01T14:58:05","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T12:58:05","slug":"this-is-how-much-you-contribute-to-south-africas-gdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/308326\/this-is-how-much-you-contribute-to-south-africas-gdp\/","title":{"rendered":"This is how much you contribute to South Africa&#8217;s GDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New data released by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/?p=12056\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Statistics South Africa<\/a><\/strong> shows how much each province contributes to the country&#8217;s total GDP.<\/p>\n<p>Stats SA found that Gauteng generated just over a third of South Africa\u2019s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2017, making it the nation\u2019s biggest provincial economy.<\/p>\n<p>KwaZulu-Natal was the second biggest, responsible for R16 of every R100 generated by the national economy, followed by the Western Cape in third.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Cape, the smallest provincial player, would need to multiply its economic output by 17 in order to square up against Gauteng, Stats SA said<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Gauteng.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-308328 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Gauteng.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"655\" height=\"579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Gauteng.jpg 997w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Gauteng-300x265.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Gauteng-768x679.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Gauteng\u2019s economic dominance is not surprising,&#8221; Stats SA said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Finance, government, manufacturing, construction and four other industries are heavily represented in the province.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Agriculture and mining are the two exceptions.
