{"id":313928,"date":"2019-04-29T15:12:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T13:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=313928"},"modified":"2019-04-29T15:12:21","modified_gmt":"2019-04-29T13:12:21","slug":"how-much-voters-trust-ramaphosa-vs-maimane-vs-malema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/313928\/how-much-voters-trust-ramaphosa-vs-maimane-vs-malema\/","title":{"rendered":"How much voters trust Ramaphosa vs Maimane vs Malema"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new poll published by research group Ipsos shows that support for the leaders of the South Africa&#8217;s biggest political parties is waning, with just nine days to go before the country heads to the voting booth.<\/p>\n<p>The latest poll, which was conducted between March and April 2019, shows a drop in support for the ANC and the DA, while support for the EFF is expected to rise on the national ballot.<\/p>\n<p>According to a survey of over 3,600 registered voters, the snapshot shows the ANC securing 56.9% of the vote (down from 62.2% in the 2014 election), the DA getting 15% (down from 22%) and the EFF rising to 9.5% (up from 6.4% in 2014).<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-313638\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"755\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April.png 1962w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April-300x141.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April-768x361.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April-1024x481.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ipsos-to-April-1200x564.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While this represents a snapshot across all registered voters, in a scenario where only 71% of voters turn up on the day, Ipsos says the final numbers could change &#8211; specifically,\u00a0 the ANC could increase to 61%, the DA to 19% and the EFF to 11%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trust in leaders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the drop in support for the ANC in the national pre-election polling, Ipsos said that support for president Cyril Ramaphosa in particular has increased significantly over the past year &#8211; though it is down since the start of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Among registered voters, Ramaphosa is the only party leader to have a positive trust score among voters.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition party leaders &#8211; the DA&#8217;s Mmusi Maimane and EFF&#8217;s Julius Malema &#8211; have negative trust scores among the electorate, who are majority ANC supporters.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-313932\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"738\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders.png 1798w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders-300x91.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders-768x232.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders-1024x310.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Trust-in-leaders-1200x363.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When looking at trust for leaders from their party&#8217;s supporters, things change drastically.<\/p>\n<p>EFF supporters trust Malema more than ANC supporters trust Ramaphosa &#8211; and both these leaders trump Maimane who has the lowest trust from a party support base.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The levels of trust recorded in April in political leaders are lower than in February &#8211; however, all three of the leaders of the biggest political parties have managed to increase the trust expressed in their leadership from their own supporters,&#8221;
