{"id":315282,"date":"2019-05-08T13:30:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T11:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=315282"},"modified":"2019-05-31T09:07:58","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T07:07:58","slug":"these-are-the-most-popular-smartwatches-right-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/315282\/these-are-the-most-popular-smartwatches-right-now\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most popular smartwatches right now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Global smartwatch shipments grew a healthy 48% year-on-year (YoY) in Q1 2019 driven by Apple, Samsung, Fitbit, and Huawei, according to the latest research from Counterpoint\u2019s Global Smartwatch Tracker.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the major shift in the market, Counterpoint research analyst, Satyajit Sinha, said that the increase has been driven by the health-related features like ECG and fall detection in the <strong>Apple Watch Series 4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The heart rate sensor for health monitoring, GPS and pedometer sensors for fitness, and NFC embedded for payment are some of the key integrated technologies,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Related use-cases and in addition to notifications with cellular capability are driving the smartwatch adoption. However, limited battery life remains a pain point for consumer\u2019s decision-making process, irrespective of region and price band.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Counterpoint-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-315284 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Counterpoint-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"677\" height=\"459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Counterpoint-1.png 677w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Counterpoint-1-300x203.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 677px) 100vw, 677px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Commenting on other vendors\u2019 performance, senior analyst, Sujeong Lim said that Samsung grew exponentially at 127% YoY as the Korean brand\u2019s market share jumped to 11% in Q1 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Its success was due to the <strong>latest Galaxy watch series<\/strong> which came with better battery life as well as a very traditional round clockface design,&#8221; Lim said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Further, it provides cellular LTE connectivity which gives it an edge over others targeting Android-based smartphone users.
