{"id":31549,"date":"2013-02-11T11:07:23","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T09:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=31549"},"modified":"2013-02-11T11:59:57","modified_gmt":"2013-02-11T09:59:57","slug":"ghana-nca-lifts-ban-on-mtn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/31549\/ghana-nca-lifts-ban-on-mtn\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana NCA lifts ban on MTN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana\u2019s National Communications Authority (NCA) has lifted a directive it imposed on <a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1640-MTN-Group\">MTN<\/a> in November to halt the sale of new SIMs.<\/p>\n<p>Late last year, the NCA ordered MTN\u2019s operation in the country,\u00a0Scancom, to cease adding new\u00a0customers with immediate effect due to the poor quality of its network.<\/p>\n<p>The NCA said in a statement that it had to engage Scancom (MTN Ghana), on several occasions, on issues of quality of service degradation (i.e. network reliability, network availability, call drop, call set-up, denial of service etc) being experienced by consumers of mobile services.<\/p>\n<p>MTN Ghana\u00a0boasts a 50% market share\u00a0in the country with in excess of 11 million customers.<\/p>\n<p>However, the watchdog said in a statement on its website that it had since been monitoring the quality of service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) &#8211;
