{"id":315790,"date":"2019-05-12T12:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-05-12T10:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=315790"},"modified":"2019-05-10T15:52:56","modified_gmt":"2019-05-10T13:52:56","slug":"the-2-biggest-mistakes-employees-make-on-their-cvs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/315790\/the-2-biggest-mistakes-employees-make-on-their-cvs\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2 biggest mistakes employees make on their CVs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recruitment specialist Glassdoor has published a new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.com\/blog\/guide\/what-is-a-cv\/#Common_CV_Pitfalls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide<\/a> <\/strong>on writing the perfect CV in 2019 &#8211; including the two biggest mistakes prospective employees make.<\/p>\n<p>The most common issue is that people simply <strong>write too much<\/strong>, said Glassdoor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just because you have more leeway when crafting a CV doesn\u2019t mean you have to include everything you\u2019ve ever accomplished \u2014 at some point, you\u2019ll get off topic and a hiring manager will stop reading,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key is to back each assertion with evidence. If you can\u2019t give a reason for why an experience should be included, it probably shouldn\u2019t be a part of your CV.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The second major issue is that as CVs get longer and more complicated, they tend to<strong> lose their &#8216;readability&#8217;<\/strong>, said Glassdoor.<\/p>\n<p>Since CVs are longer than resumes, it\u2019s easy to type away while missing grammar or spelling mistakes, it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Submitting a CV with basic errors, especially in an academic context, is a huge red flag. Make sure you\u2019ve thoroughly edited your writing \u2014 don\u2019t depend solely on SpellCheck.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After you\u2019ve reviewed your CV, ask a colleague or advisor to read it over.
