According to a new survey by online retailer, Kalahari.com<\/a>, what women want most for Valentine’s Day might surprise you.<\/p>\n

The thing women want most for Valentine’s Day this year isn’t a box of chocolates with a dozen red roses – according to Kalahari.com, it’s a tablet.<\/p>\n

The consumer survey run by the online retailer found that 47% of online female shoppers surveyed wanted a tablet as a gift from their significant others.<\/p>\n

Two out of 10 ladies opted for 80’s romance, Dirty Dancing on DVD, which Kalahari.com head of marketing, Liz Hillock<\/a> says is “definitely one of the most popular movies on the site”.<\/p>\n

14% of women still wanted the more traditional chocolates and flowers combo – but a large chunk (20%) were more interested in the more unconventional exploits of E.L James’ 50 Shades series of novella.<\/p>\n

Whilst the number of respondents planning to celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day has increased by 5% from last year, Kalahari said, the majority of shoppers (41.9%) revealed that, instead of an evening in a romantic restaurant, they will be finding alternative ways to spend the day.<\/p>\n

16.2% said they would celebrate with friends and 15.4% said they’d opt for a private dinner at home.<\/p>\n

Not be excluded, singles who responded to the survey said they would be spending the day reading a book at home, or would go out and grab a movie with friends.<\/p>\n

Close to 40% of shoppers said they would spend under R250 on the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough women covet items such as tablets, many shoppers will also be opting for more affordable and down to earth ways to celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day this year.”<\/p>\n

“This is not an unusual trend after a generous festive season,\u201d Hillock said.<\/p>\n
