{"id":317848,"date":"2019-05-20T11:36:21","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T09:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=317848"},"modified":"2019-05-20T11:36:21","modified_gmt":"2019-05-20T09:36:21","slug":"huawei-responds-to-googles-android-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/317848\/huawei-responds-to-googles-android-block\/","title":{"rendered":"Huawei responds to Google&#8217;s Android block"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Huawei has reacted to Google&#8217;s announcement that it will be suspending business with the technology firm as part of an ongoing trade war between the Trump administration and China.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-huawei-tech-alphabet-exclusive\/exclusive-google-suspends-some-business-with-huawei-after-trump-blacklist-source-idUSKCN1SP0NB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> <\/strong>that Google had suspended business with Huawei that requires the transfer of hardware and software products except those covered by open source licenses.<\/p>\n<p>The news has caused concern among Huawei customers about how their smartphones would work with Google apps including Gmail, YouTube, and Chrome.<\/p>\n<p>However, Huawei said that it will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally,&#8221; Huawei said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As one of Android\u2019s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Markets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/technology\/317696\/top-us-tech-firms-begin-to-cut-off-vital-huawei-supplies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bloomberg<\/a> <\/strong>reports that the impact of the Trump administration\u2019s threats to choke Huawei Technologies Co reverberated across the global supply chain on Monday, hitting some of the biggest component-makers.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s Infineon Technologies AG fell in early trading Monday after the Nikkei reported it halted shipments to the Chinese company in the wake of the US ban.
