The\u00a0Department of Communications<\/a>\u00a0continues to operate without its\u00a0director general,\u00a0Rosey Sekese<\/a>, who is still on\u00a0special leave – while a cloud still hangs over the department’s minister, Dina Pule.<\/p>\n

In November, the National Assembly\u2019s communications committee asked communications minister\u00a0Dina Pule<\/a>\u00a0to look into her director general\u2019s performance agreement.<\/p>\n

The committee reached a consensus that Sekese\u00a0\u201cmisled\u201d it regarding the signing of her performance agreement for 2012\/13.<\/p>\n

Sekese told the committee\u00a0that she had a performance agreement for 2012\/2013, to which\u00a0committee members asked for evidence of the signed document.\u00a0Two documents were provided.<\/p>\n

After studying the two contracts, committee chairman\u00a0Sikhumbuzo \u201cEric\u201d Kholwane<\/a>\u00a0said they were found to be \u201ctwo unidentical documents which did not have signatures of both parties\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, they do not constitute a performance agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to legal counsel, there was no contract between the director general and minister Pule.<\/p>\n

“The director general of the Department of Communications, Ms Rosey Sekese,\u00a0remains on special leave. The matter is being handled internally,” the DoC said in a statement on Friday (15 February).<\/p>\n

Deputy director general, Gift Buthelezi, has been asked to continue acting in Sekese’s role.<\/p>\n

Dina Pule<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dina Pule is also currently under pressure with various media reporting that the minister is set to be ousted from cabinet \u201csoon\u201d, following a scandal involving her boyfriend Phosane Mngqibisa, in which he received R6 million in management fees for the ICT Indaba held in 2012.<\/p>\n

A statement from the minster on Monday (11 February) largely sidestepped the question of whether she had asked to be deployed as an ambassador, away from her current position, as reported in the Sunday Independent.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Jacob Zuma has given me a task to ensure that all South Africans have access to world class ICT Infrastructure, policies, broadcasting signal and post offices. We moving apace to connect schools and open post offices in rural areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a task I take very seriously and I\u2019ll continue to execute it until the President tells me otherwise.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
