{"id":31854,"date":"2013-02-17T08:56:31","date_gmt":"2013-02-17T06:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=31854"},"modified":"2013-02-18T13:39:03","modified_gmt":"2013-02-18T11:39:03","slug":"pule-faces-the-chop-in-reshuffle-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/31854\/pule-faces-the-chop-in-reshuffle-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Pule faces the chop in reshuffle &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of communications, <a title=\"Dina Pule\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2128-Dina-Pule\">Dina Pule<\/a>, is likely to be axed in a cabinet reshuffle by <a title=\"Jacob Zuma\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2611-Jacob-Zuma\">Jacob Zuma<\/a>, the Sunday Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, Zuma is planning a cabinet reshuffle in which ministers <a title=\"Lulu Xingwana\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7284-Lulu-Xingwana\">Lulu Xingwana<\/a> (minister of women, children and the disabled) and Dina Pule (minister of communications) will face the chop.<\/p>\n<p>Pule&#8217;s career has been marked with a number of scandals, including the widely publicised payment of <a title=\"ICT Indaba\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4596-ICT-Indaba\">ICT Indaba<\/a> funds &#8211; equating to millions of rands &#8211; to her boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>The ICT Indaba is currently subject to investigations by the Public Protector, the Auditor General and Parliament\u2019s ethics and members\u2019 interests committee.<\/p>\n<p>Pule is understood to be already preparing for life outside government, The Sunday Times said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the paper anonymously, a minister in government confirmed that discussions were taking place regarding the reshuffle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They don&#8217;t want Lulu and Dina,&#8221; the minister was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper highlighted that Pule&#8217;s home province, Mpumalanga, did not back her return to the <a title=\"ANC\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2387-ANC-African-National-Congress\">ANC<\/a>\u2019s NEC at Manguang.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21209\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Dina-Pule-shoes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21209\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21209\" title=\"Dina Pule's red-soled shoes\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Dina-Pule-shoes.jpg\" alt=\"Dina Pule's red-soled shoes\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Dina-Pule-shoes.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Dina-Pule-shoes-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21209\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dina Pule was also called out for splashing out on these expensive red-soled shoes<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">&#8220;Mischievous rumours&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Responding to a similar report published in the Sunday Independent newspaper last week (10 February 2013), the SA government dismissed the claims that Pule would soon lose her job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Presidency has noted the carefully orchestrated rumour published by most Sunday newspapers today that President [Jacob] Zuma is to relieve the Minister of Communications\u2026of her duties and reshuffle his cabinet,\u201d Presidency spokesman <a title=\"Mac Maharaj\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7210-Mac-Maharaj\">Mac Maharaj<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rumour and speculation are mischievous and will not distract government from the main activity this coming week, the State of the Nation Address by the President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When questioned about her impending dismissal last week (11 February 2013), Pule side-stepped the question and reiterated her mandate:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Jacob Zuma has given me a task to ensure that all South Africans have access to world class ICT Infrastructure, policies, broadcasting signal and post offices.
