{"id":32315,"date":"2013-02-26T00:26:02","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T22:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=32315"},"modified":"2013-02-26T08:30:12","modified_gmt":"2013-02-26T06:30:12","slug":"digital-future-vital-says-nedbank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/32315\/digital-future-vital-says-nedbank\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital future &#8220;vital&#8221; says Nedbank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Nedbank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2626-Nedbank\">Nedbank<\/a> CEO, <a title=\"Mike Brown\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2096-Mike-Brown\">Mike Brown<\/a> pointed to \u201cstrong growth\u201d across its digital platforms and stressed the importance of the bank&#8217;s online network going forward.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday (25 February) Nedbank said that its client base has surpassed the six million mark.<\/p>\n<p>The bank reported a 19% rise in diluted headline earnings per share to R15.95 for the year ended December 2012, and lifted its full year dividend per share 24.3% to 7.52 rand.<\/p>\n<p>Nedbank also announced that it increased its footprint by 80 net new staffed outlets and 476 net new ATMs in 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The financial services company underlined examples of innovations launched in 2012:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Home loans online channel, which it said now contributes 10% to 15% of all intake;<\/li>\n<li>Nedbank App Suite with over 100\u00a0000 users to date;<\/li>\n<li>My Financial Life as a free online financial management tool to all in SA;<\/li>\n<li>The Social Media Listening Centre as an alternative communication channel for engaging clients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Monday, the financial services firm also tweeted that its Investor App has gone live within its Nedbank App Suite, while earlier this month (February), the group launched a mobile point-of-sale (POS) service.<\/p>\n<p>Nedbank\u2019s online personal financial management tool \u2013 My Financial Life \u2013 went live in October 2012 and provides a consolidated view of users\u2019 entire financial position through an online portal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Integrated-channel strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nedbank said that its integrated-channel strategy, leveraging digital, is gaining momentum through extended branch banking hours, a 9% increase in sales people and increased cross-selling at point of sale enabled by the rollout of the new frontline banking platform, Siyakha, to over 7, 300 users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strong transactional sales focus and continuous innovation contributed to over 1.15\u00a0million clients using Nedbank\u2019s competitive digital channels. This is up 46% in the last 24 months and excludes clients using the eNote and m-pesa functionalities,\u201d Nedbank said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>M-Pesa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nedbank said that its <a title=\"M-Pesa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7384-M-Pesa\">M-Pesa<\/a> mobile phone offering in conjunction with <a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1639-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a> remains an attractive offer for entry-level banking and continues to gain momentum with client registrations having reached one million in February 2012 from 693,000 a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitiatives to simplify the sign-on process and the introduction of an M-Pesa linked card should further increase the number of active users going\u00a0forward,\u201d the bank said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike Brown on Twitter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Monday, following the group\u2019s results announcement, CEO Mike Brown
