Speculation that former Vodacom<\/a> CEO, Alan Knott-Craig<\/a>, is close to an agreement with Cell C<\/a> to take over as CEO intensified on Wednesday after construction group Murray & Roberts (MUR) announced the resignation of Knott-Craig as non-executive director with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

Murray & Roberts said that Knott-Craig had resigned due to other business commitments, following three years of contribution.<\/p>\n

Knott-Craig however, has denied that he has reached an agreement with Cell C to take over as CEO at the company.<\/p>\n

In late 2011, news emerged that Alan Knott-Craig was in discussions with Cell C which could see him head up the company.<\/p>\n

At the time, he confirmed that he was in tentative talks with Cell C, but he was quick to point out that he had not signed a contract with any company.<\/p>\n

Speculation about Knott-Craig heading up Cell C has once again flared up with sources saying that he will take over as long as there is adequate funding to execute his plans.<\/p>\n

Knott-Craig told MyBroadband via his spokesperson, Kevin Schmidt, that these rumours are untrue, and that nothing has changed since the news reports surfaced last year.<\/p>\n

According to Schmidt, Knott-Craig said that he was perplexed by the speculation and added that he does not know why these rumours started.<\/p>\n

Industry sources, however, maintain that it is likely that Knott-Craig will take over at the helm as Cell C CEO, replacing acting CEO, Simon Duffy<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
