{"id":325279,"date":"2019-06-25T08:04:32","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T06:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=325279"},"modified":"2019-06-25T11:29:08","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T09:29:08","slug":"investec-is-giving-employees-unlimited-leave-and-relaxing-its-dress-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/325279\/investec-is-giving-employees-unlimited-leave-and-relaxing-its-dress-code\/","title":{"rendered":"Investec is giving employees unlimited leave and relaxing its dress code"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Asset manager Investec has announced a number of internal changes which aim to make the company a more enjoyable place to work while still meeting targets.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.702.co.za\/articles\/352700\/investec-gives-staff-unlimited-leave-days-and-freedom-to-wear-what-they-want\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">702,<\/a> <\/strong>head of human resources at Investec SA, Lesley-Anne Gatter, said that from September 2019 the company will allow employees to take unlimited leave days as long as they meet their deadline requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Essentially the financial services firm will reward employees according to output, and not the number of hours worked.<\/p>\n<p>Employees will also be\u00a0 allowed to wear whatever they want to work &#8211; provided they still dress appropriately for meetings and formal events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to engage with employees as adults who can really manage their time as they need to and in their own way,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rather what we are after is high-performance. We are after output and we are after exceptional delivery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Investec employs approximately 10,000 people globally, with just over half located in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dealing with grown-ups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Citing research from Netflix, Gatter said that in many instances a company&#8217;s strongest performers actually end up taking less leave than they ought to have.<\/p>\n<p>To get around this, Investec has mandated that every employee take a minimum of 10 days leave each cycle and now tracks &#8217;employee wellbeing&#8217; across a number of indicators.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are after a very adult relationship with our employees.
