{"id":32562,"date":"2013-02-28T13:12:29","date_gmt":"2013-02-28T11:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=32562"},"modified":"2013-03-01T08:37:53","modified_gmt":"2013-03-01T06:37:53","slug":"kagiso-looks-to-msn-africa-portals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/32562\/kagiso-looks-to-msn-africa-portals\/","title":{"rendered":"Kagiso looks to MSN Africa portals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"JSE\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1663-JSE-Limited\">JSE<\/a>-listed\u00a0<a title=\"Kagiso Media\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4866-Kagiso-Media\">Kagiso Media<\/a>\u00a0says\u00a0its partner, <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1715-Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a>, has approved expansion plans to East and West Africa, with MSN\u00a0Africa portals planned to go live in July.<\/p>\n<p>Kagiso\u2019s MSN business was established in a partnership with Microsoft (MSN) in 2010 to manage and localise the www.howzit.msn.com portal in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday (28 February) Kagiso Media reported a 56% rise in group revenue in\u00a0interim results for the period ended December 2012,\u00a0to\u00a0R709 million, but also noted that operating profit dropped to R140.19 million, from R148.71 million in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Diluted headline earnings per share dropped to at 80.5 cents, versus 82.1 cents before.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it would pay an interim dividend of\u00a045 cents per share, from 41 cents in the prior year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kagiso said its\u00a0New Media division continues to enjoy exceptional revenue growth, up 43% from R38 million in 2011, to R54,5 million; however, operating profit\u00a0remains flat. &#8220;This is due to ongoing investment in people, systems and marketing, to support the operations as they move from the early start-up stages\u00a0to the next stage of growth,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The cash generated from operations increased by 15% to R167.5 million, largely driven by its broadcasting division. Brands within this division include:\u00a0East Coast Radio,\u00a0Jacaranda FM 94.2,\u00a0Heart 104.9,\u00a0Ofm 94-97, and\u00a0Kaya fm.<\/p>\n<p>The group said it maintains\u00a0a healthy cash balance of R416,9 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead,\u00a0Kagiso said that the South African economy remains in a low growth cycle, and it anticipates a continued slowdown in economic growth in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>However, the group said that\u00a0trading conditions should prove resilient in the coming months, given that most of its operations trade in relatively mature markets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The outlook for New Media is in line with expectations and remains positive.
