{"id":33287,"date":"2013-03-10T23:56:21","date_gmt":"2013-03-10T21:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=33287"},"modified":"2013-03-11T08:58:14","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T06:58:14","slug":"teraco-strikes-deal-to-boost-internet-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/33287\/teraco-strikes-deal-to-boost-internet-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Teraco strikes deal to boost Internet in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Teraco Data Environments\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5182-Teraco\">Teraco Data Environments<\/a> has announced that it is now connected with the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (<a title=\"AMS-IX\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7592-Amsterdam-Internet-Exchange-AMS-IX\">AMS-IX<\/a>), which interconnects over 550 IP networks globally.<\/p>\n<p>Through a choice of AMS-IX approved carriers connected to Teraco\u2019s peering service <a title=\"NAPAfrica\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5184-NapAfrica\">NAPAfrica<\/a>, this development will bring Africa substantially closer to Europe in terms of connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>Teraco added that this development will also provide opportunities for European carriers to connect across Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfrican Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can now tap further into global carrier networks through vendor-neutral peering at NAPAfrica. This will help to offer local consumers access to high speed connections at a dramatically reduced cost,\u201d said <a title=\"Lex van Wyk\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5183-Lex-van-Wyk\">Lex van Wyk<\/a>, CEO of Teraco Data Environments.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Job Witteman\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7593-Job-Witteman\">Job Witteman<\/a>, CEO of AMS-IX, said that the Teraco and AMS-IX connection provides exciting opportunities through reduced rate connections between Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy peering at NAPAfrica in Teraco, we are able to broaden our own horizons into the African continent and allow African parties to access more than 550 IP networks at our exchange,\u201d said Witteman.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Better peering through Teraco\u2019s NAPAfrica<\/h3>\n<p>Van Wyk said that Teraco\u2019s NAPAfrica peering facility makes peering cheaper and simpler.
