Communications minister Dina Pule<\/a> said that calls for her to resign over the problems at the SABC<\/a> are unjustified.<\/p>\n

The SABC has been facing serious challenges recently, which include the resignation of SABC board chairman Ben Ngubane<\/a> and his deputy, Thami ka Plaatjie<\/a>. There is also a battle surrounding the dismissal of SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng<\/a> by the board.<\/p>\n

In a Sunday Times interview Pule was asked about calls for her resignation following the continued problems at the state broadcaster.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy should I resign when the SABC has problems? I\u2019m not the board and I did not appoint the board. Why aren\u2019t there calls for the committee that appointed the board to resign?\u201d Pule answered.<\/p>\n

The communications minister said that she is politically responsible for the SABC, but that it is in partnership with a committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no way you can appoint a chairman and then, when this person does something wrong, you want me to take responsibility,\u201d said Pule.<\/p>\n

Pule also lambasted the SABC board for \u2018not behaving like adults\u2019: \u201cSomebody must ask why are the board members behaving like that. Because they are not children; we are not talking about school children here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sunday Independent\u00a0report on Pule<\/h3>\n

A separate report in The Sunday Independent\u00a0newspaper alleges that three months before the SABC\u2019s suspended chief financial officer was appointed, Pule held \u201csecret meetings\u201d with her, according to an internal report.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe minister apparently offered Gugu Duda<\/a> the job. In turn, Duda allegedly promised a former colleague, Nomakhaya Malebane, a job as deputy chief financial officer \u2018to assist her in the office as the CFO due to her (Duda) lack of sufficient experience and exposure as a financial manager at an executive level\u2019,\u201d The Sunday Independent\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalebane was hired as one of the two consultants in Duda\u2019s office at a cost of R137,500 a month,\u201d the newspaper stated.<\/p>\n

According to The Sunday Independent the allegations are contained in a forensic report titled \u201cvarious allegations in the office of the CFO\u201d compiled by the public broadcaster\u2019s forensic audit unit.<\/p>\n
