The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) has welcomed President Jacob Zuma’s acceptance of the resignations of SABC board members.<\/p>\n
“We believe that these resignations were long overdue and we urge the president of the country to fast track the process of appointing an interim board,” the CWU said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Zuma accepted the resignations of most members of the SABC board, including chairman Ben Ngubane and his deputy Thami ka Plaatjie.<\/p>\n
In the wake of Ngubane and Ka Plaatjie’s joint resignation letter last week, Zuma had received six more and had accepted all, presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said.<\/p>\n
The board members who quit were Lumko Mtimde, John Danana, Cedric Gina, Desmond Golding, Cawe Mahlati, and Noluthando Gosa.<\/p>\n
The exodus followed a row between Ngubane and the board, reportedly about the tenure of acting chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng.<\/p>\n
