{"id":339345,"date":"2019-09-06T14:36:07","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T12:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=339345"},"modified":"2019-09-06T14:36:30","modified_gmt":"2019-09-06T12:36:30","slug":"this-is-one-of-the-new-laws-government-wants-to-enforce-transformation-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/339345\/this-is-one-of-the-new-laws-government-wants-to-enforce-transformation-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"This is one of the new laws government wants to use to enforce transformation in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government has expressed concern at the slow pace of transformation in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Friday (6 September), cabinet said the latest Commission for Employment Equity report shows &#8216;disappointingly low compliance levels with the Employment Equity Act&#8217;, which is aimed at addressing the apartheid legacy of imbalances and inequalities in the country&#8217;s labour market.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In an effort to strengthen the Employment Equity Act, government will be tabling the Employment Equity Amendment Bill in parliament,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bill increases fines for contravening the act and makes it compulsory that employers who want to do business with the government provide an employment equity compliance certificate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These are in line with the &#8216;harsh measures&#8217;
