{"id":341355,"date":"2019-09-17T07:08:45","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T05:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=341355"},"modified":"2019-09-17T07:08:45","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T05:08:45","slug":"pedo-guy-a-common-insult-used-in-south-africa-elon-musk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/341355\/pedo-guy-a-common-insult-used-in-south-africa-elon-musk\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Pedo guy&#8217; a common insult used in South Africa: Elon Musk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elon Musk revealed that he hired a private investigator for $50,000 to back up his assertion in a 2018 tweet that a British caver was a \u201cpedo guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk is now asking a judge to forgo a trial and a throw out a lawsuit by the caver, Vernon Unsworth, accusing the chief executive officer of Tesla Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. of defamation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy referring to Mr Unsworth as \u2018pedo guy,\u2019 I did not intend to convey any facts or imply that Mr Unsworth had engaged in acts of pedophilia,\u201d Musk said in a court filing Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPedo guy was a common insult used in South Africa when I was growing up. It is synonymous with \u2018creepy old man\u2019 and is used to insult a person\u2019s appearance and demeanor, not accuse a person of pedophilia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk revealed that one of his trusted aides commissioned a private investigator to conduct an investigation of Unsworth on Musk\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusk\u2019s motion is as offensive to the truth and the sworn testimony developed in this case as was his initial false and heinous accusation of pedophilia,\u201d Unsworth\u2019s lawyer, L.
