{"id":34722,"date":"2013-04-02T10:50:39","date_gmt":"2013-04-02T08:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=34722"},"modified":"2013-04-02T12:46:01","modified_gmt":"2013-04-02T10:46:01","slug":"white-men-in-joburg-earn-the-most-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/34722\/white-men-in-joburg-earn-the-most-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"White men in Joburg earn the most in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>White male Gautengers are the highest earners in South Africa, with young African women in Limpopo the lowest, the <a title=\"SA Institute of Race Relations\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6804-South-African-Institute-of-Race-Relations-SAIRR\">SA Institute of Race Relations<\/a> said on Tuesday (2 April).<\/p>\n<p>According to <a title=\"Statistics SA\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2812-Statistics-South-Africa\">Statistics SA<\/a> information the SAIRR analysed, the white men, on average, work in the community and social services industry, (including government), are in skilled jobs, belong to a union, and are between 55 and 64 years old.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;On average the lowest paid employees are African women living in Limpopo, working in private households, not belonging to a union, and aged between 15 and 24,&#8221; SAIRR&#8217;s SA Survey found.<\/p>\n<p>The institute said that in 2011, the median monthly wage for African earners was R2,380, for coloured earners R3,030, for Indian earners R6,800, and for white earners R10,000.<\/p>\n<p>This meant &#8220;median wages of white earners are four times as high as those of African earners, of skilled employees six times as high as those of unskilled employees, and of unionised employees twice as high as those of non-unionised workers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Georgina Alexander\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6832-Georgina-Alexander\">Georgina Alexander<\/a>, a researcher at the Institute, said in a statement: &#8220;It must be noted, however, that it takes into account those who earn salaries only.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The largest and most enduring inequality in South Africa is between those who are employed and those who are not,&#8221;
