{"id":34896,"date":"2013-04-04T12:57:13","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T10:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=34896"},"modified":"2013-04-04T13:00:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-04T11:00:25","slug":"da-welcomes-icasa-wbs-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/34896\/da-welcomes-icasa-wbs-action\/","title":{"rendered":"DA welcomes Icasa WBS action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the action taken by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) against a Gauteng-based telecommunications company, WBS\/iBurst, which allegedly owes millions of rands in outstanding licence fees.<\/p>\n<p>DA shadow minister of communication, Marian Shinn, said that this action should serve as a warning to the many network providers who have exploited ICASA\u2019s weak administration to their financial advantage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are likely to feel the wrath of their disconnected customer base if they don\u2019t make prompt arrangements to pay their outstanding fees,\u201d Shinn said.<\/p>\n<p>Shinn added that WBS\u2019s tardiness with its fee payments was highlighted last month, when ICASA councillor Joseph Lebooa went public with the claim that his vehicle had been hijacked and he was assaulted by thugs who told him the attack was a warning from WBS to stop investigating it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15228\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Marian-Shinn-landscape.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15228\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15228\" alt=\"Marian Shinn\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Marian-Shinn-landscape.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Marian-Shinn-landscape.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Marian-Shinn-landscape-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DA Shadow Minister of Communications &#8211;
