{"id":34924,"date":"2013-04-04T17:50:21","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T15:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=34924"},"modified":"2013-04-04T17:51:28","modified_gmt":"2013-04-04T15:51:28","slug":"464-laptops-stolen-from-auditor-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/34924\/464-laptops-stolen-from-auditor-general\/","title":{"rendered":"464 laptops stolen from Auditor-General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Auditor-General of South Africa (Agsa) says that 464 new laptop computers valued at R5.1 million\u00a0have been\u00a0stolen from its Pretoria headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>AGSA said that over the past three months it has experienced a series of break-ins at its offices in the North West, Mpumalanga and Gauteng where valuable assets including computers were\u00a0stolen.<\/p>\n<p>The latest theft of the computers, which Agsa\u00a0said were stored in a secure storage area, was reported to the police on 22 March.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;A police investigation has led to the arrest of two junior Agsa\u00a0employees based at head office, who dealt with computer dispatching for the organisation.<br \/>\n&#8220;As the AGSA we believe in and support the principle of innocent until proven guilty,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u00a0believe that these employees should be afforded that courtesy \u2013 the fact that they have\u00a0been arrested should not be interpreted to suggest that they are guilty,&#8221;\u00a0Agsa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Agsa said it will fully cooperate with the law enforcement agencies but will only make detailed public comments\u00a0on the matter when the investigation has been completed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;However, although we will not comment in detail on this matter while investigations are underway, we can categorically state at this stage that the Agsa, as supporter of ethical conduct and good corporate governance, expects and encourages its employees to lead by example at all times,&#8221;
