{"id":3509,"date":"2012-01-20T05:13:22","date_gmt":"2012-01-20T05:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=3509"},"modified":"2012-11-14T16:41:01","modified_gmt":"2012-11-14T14:41:01","slug":"i-wont-nick-vodacom-staff-alan-knott-craig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/3509\/i-wont-nick-vodacom-staff-alan-knott-craig\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;I won&#8217;t nick Vodacom staff&#8221;: Alan Knott-Craig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\" target=\"_blank\">Cell C<\/a> CEO <a title=\"Person Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/224891-Alan-Knott-Craig-%28Senior%29\" target=\"_blank\">Alan Knott-Craig<\/a> said that he will not actively try to poach <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\" target=\"_blank\">Vodacom<\/a> executives, but left the door open for them to follow him.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Cell C announced today (19 January 2012) that it has decided to appoint former Vodacom CEO Alan Knott-Craig as the new Chief Executive Officer of Cell C.<\/p>\n<p>Knott-Craig founded Vodacom and headed up the company since its humble beginnings in 1993.\u00a0 Over the following 15 years, Knott-Craig built up Vodacom to become one of South Africa\u2019s most successful companies.<\/p>\n<p>After a three-and-a-half year break, Knott-Craig said he is healthy and ready to make a difference in the local telecommunications market.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C non-executive chairman and acting CEO, <a title=\"Person Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/349634-Simon-Duffy\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Duffy<\/a>, said that they looked both nationally and internationally for a replacement for <a title=\"Person Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/210083-Lars-Reichelt\" target=\"_blank\">Lars Reichelt<\/a>, who left Cell C in mid-2011, and that Knott Craig was the best man for the job.<\/p>\n<p>Knott-Craig\u2019s experience and established relationships in the South African cellular arena certainly makes him an excellent choice to head up Cell C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I won\u2019t steal Vodacom staff&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Knott-Craig\u2019s long tenure at Vodacom means that he has in-depth knowledge of the most talented people at the operator.<\/p>\n<p>This knowledge about Vodacom\u2019s staff, coupled with the established friendships with many of the company\u2019s top managers, raises the question whether Knott-Craig will poach Vodacom executives to join him at Cell C.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last six months there have been numerous high-level departures at Cell C, including former CEO Reichelt; CIO <a title=\"Person Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/265143-Ron-Reddick\" target=\"_blank\">Ron Reddick<\/a>; marketing head <a title=\"Person Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/304057-Simon-Camerer\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Camerer<\/a>;
