what South Africans think of the new banks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BrandsEye has released its 2019 South African Banking Sentiment Index, revealing the sentiment around the country&#8217;s newest banking entrants.<\/p>\n<p>The index is based on an analysis of social media posts about South Africa\u2019s largest banks across various platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>Around 68,500 posts focused on the new entrants, Bank Zero, Discovery Bank and Tyme.<\/p>\n<p>BrandsEye uses topic analyses to gauge the sentiment of posts (either positive or negative), across 70 topics, and seven broad categories, including reputation, customer service, pricing and customer retention.<\/p>\n<p>The net index score is determined by subtracting negative sentiment from positive sentiment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unimpressed with Discovery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BrandsEye said that the\u00a0response to Discovery Bank\u2019s launch was underwhelming &#8211; driven by complaints about the launch delays and onboarding issues with existing Discovery clients.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Discovery\u2019s announcement in November 2018 that 10% of the bank\u2019s shares will be given to black depositors was not welcomed by all consumers and drove a significant decline in sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tyme performed well with growing awareness and improving sentiment post-launch,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Positive sentiment for Bank Zero was driven by engagement with the bank\u2019s co-founder, Michael Jordaan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-352521 \" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"875\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery-.jpg 1518w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery--300x153.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery--768x392.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery--1024x522.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Discovery--1200x612.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 875px) 100vw, 875px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>BrandsEye SA chief executive, Nic Ray, said that the county&#8217;s newest banks will have to work hard to win over customer loyalty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The excitement that paved the way for their long-awaited arrival will likely be tempered by growing service requests and complaints as the banks onboard new customers,&#8221;
