{"id":354621,"date":"2019-11-17T07:08:10","date_gmt":"2019-11-17T05:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=354621"},"modified":"2019-11-17T07:08:10","modified_gmt":"2019-11-17T05:08:10","slug":"continued-strike-means-the-end-for-saa-acting-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/354621\/continued-strike-means-the-end-for-saa-acting-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"Continued strike means the end for SAA: acting chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Acting SAA chair Thandeka Mgoduso has warned that the airline is at a tipping point and may close its doors if the strike action against it continues, the Sunday Times reports.<\/p>\n<p>Mgoduso said that the airline is currently surviving on the goodwill of its lenders and could struggle to pay salaries at the end of the month due to a lack of income caused by the strike.<\/p>\n<p>She added that it was pointless to apply for business rescue as &#8216;there would be nothing left to rescue&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If this strike perpetuates and there is no money coming into the company, everyone that we owe will want their money and where does the money come from?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is nothing to rescue and that is why we are doing what we are doing to ensure that we return the company to a state where it can be turned around.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The employees that are on strike are the ones that are going to cause SAA to close,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flight delays<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Friday SAA said it has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/354569\/saa-cancels-domestic-flights-until-monday-but-will-reintroduce-international-flights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">extended<\/a> <\/strong>the cancellation of all domestic and regional flights scheduled for Sunday (17 November) and Monday (18 November).<\/p>\n<p>The airline says this is an operational decision aimed at minimising the impact of disruptions on the airline\u2019s customers.
