business and innovation status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa ranks 55th out of 144 countries in terms of its business and innovation environment, according to the latest report by the World Economic Forum (<a title=\"WEF\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5792-World-Economic-Forum\">WEF<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The international body published its Global Information Technology Report 2013 earlier this week (10 April), and revealed that South Africa climbed two positions overall, to 70th place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite a sharp improvement in the development of its ICT infrastructure (59th)\u2014notably in terms of international Internet bandwidth capacity (66th)\u2014and a strong uptake by the business community (33rd), the ICT impacts (92nd), particularly the social ones (112th), remain limited,\u201d the report said of SA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe perception of a lack of clear government vision (105th) to orchestrate and implement a holistic ICT strategy for the country, coupled with deficiencies in the educational system for some segments of the population (102nd), play negatively in this process and outweigh a rather positive political and regulatory framework for ICT development (21st) and pro-business environment (55<sup>th<\/sup>),\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35526\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"wp-caption-text\">Business Innovation in SA<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Global Information Technology Report 2013 features the latest results of the Networked Readiness Index (<a title=\"NRI\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/8037-Network-Readiness-Index-NRI\">NRI<\/a>), offering an overview of the current state of ICT readiness in the world.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa ranked 81st for individual usage of ICT, 33rd for business usage, and 102 for government usage.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the report noted that the country ranks 59th for infrastructure and digital content, 104th for affordability, and 102 for skills in the ICT space.<\/p>\n<p>For economic impact, SA ranks 51st, and for social impact sees the country at 112<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<div
