government is failing to implement and successfully promote its ICT policies, according to a WEF report.<\/p>\n<p>The international body published its Global Information Technology Report 2013 on 10 April, and revealed that South Africa has climbed two positions to 70th place in its overall Network Readiness Index.<\/p>\n<p>The index ranks countries across 10 &#8220;pillars&#8221; the highest ranking achieved in a pillar by South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The ranking was determined by looking at how South Africa ranks in the various aspects of the politcal and regularoty environment in the country.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35528\" style=\"width: 549px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35528\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35528\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Regulatory-ICT.png\" alt=\"Regulatory \" width=\"539\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Regulatory-ICT.png 539w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Regulatory-ICT-300x173.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-35528\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SA regulatory environment<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Hampered by government<\/h3>\n<p>Despite ranking among the top countries for the regulatory environment, South Africa ranks poorly when it comes to government&#8217;s usage and promotion of its ICT policy in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Out of 144 countries, South Africa ranks 102nd for its government usage of ICT.<\/p>\n<p>This includes ranking 105th for the importance of ICT in government&#8217;s vision, and 100th for success in promoting ICT in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The rankings were determined as a result of surveying executives in the country, asking &#8220;To what extent does the government have a clear implementation plan for utilizing ICTs to improve your country\u2019s overall competitiveness?&#8221;
