This equates to around 15 million commuter trips a day.<\/p>\n<p>However, the group noted that there are also a number of issues facing the industry including the rising costs of vehicles and petrol.<\/p>\n<p>It estimates that the average price of a Toyota HiAce minibus-taxi is now R451,600 &#8211; a 24% increase since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, it noted that the November fuel price of R15.53 per litre (petrol) is only 6% lower than the all-time petrol price in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Taxi-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-357215 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Taxi-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"822\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Taxi-1.png 1200w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Taxi-1-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Taxi-1-1024x701.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Taxi-1-768x526.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Taxi fares\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Transaction Capital said that fares are determined by each association per route and are designed to ensure that ensures operators remain profitable.<\/p>\n<p>It added that demand for minibus taxi services is relatively inelastic and that a number of factors are considered when looking at fare increases, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Timing &amp;
