{"id":35969,"date":"2013-04-17T10:56:48","date_gmt":"2013-04-17T08:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=35969"},"modified":"2013-04-17T10:59:32","modified_gmt":"2013-04-17T08:59:32","slug":"sanral-says-e-tolls-to-create-5000-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/35969\/sanral-says-e-tolls-to-create-5000-jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanral says e-tolls to create 5,000 jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SA National Roads Agency Limited (<a title=\"Sanral\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/372008-SANRAL\">Sanral<\/a>) says the planned toll roads on the N1 and N2 in the Western Cape will create almost 5000 jobs, it was reported on Wednesday (17 April).<\/p>\n<p>Sanral spokesman Vusi Mona told the Cape Times almost three-quarters of these jobs would go to lower-paid workers.<\/p>\n<p>After construction, about 600 direct jobs would be generated a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upgrade of the N1-N2 Winelands route will be of great benefit to all communities in the region and will not impact negatively on poorer communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSanral views the upgrading of the road network as a major infrastructural investment which will lead to increased job opportunities and will also boost the economy in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"Democratic Alliance\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/431011-DA-Democratic-Alliance\">Democratic Alliance<\/a>\u00a0announced on Monday that it would mobilise residents against tolling.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Congress of SA Trade Unions\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/399517-Cosatu\">Congress of SA Trade Unions<\/a>\u00a0provincial secretary\u00a0<a title=\"Tony Ehrenreich\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/522285-Tony-Ehrenreich\">Tony Ehrenreich<\/a>\u00a0also said he would oppose the project.<\/p>\n<p>Ehrenreich reportedly said Cosatu would not support running an anti-tolling campaign with the DA unless it publicly stated it would use funds to remove huge inequalities between \u201cblack and white areas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Provincial premier\u00a0<a title=\"Helen Zille\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/407121-Helen-Zille\">Helen Zille<\/a>\u00a0said it was hypocritical of Ehrenreich to oppose the project when the ANC caucus in the city council, led by Ehrenreich, had voted against the city\u2019s decision to fight tolls.<\/p>\n<p>Ehrenreich said: \u201cI can\u2019t say I recall that happening. We would never do that.
