{"id":360306,"date":"2019-12-07T15:26:06","date_gmt":"2019-12-07T13:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=360306"},"modified":"2019-12-06T15:26:20","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T13:26:20","slug":"south-africas-top-government-managers-will-now-be-required-to-take-this-online-course-before-getting-the-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/360306\/south-africas-top-government-managers-will-now-be-required-to-take-this-online-course-before-getting-the-job\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s top government managers will now be required to take this online course before getting the job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Public Service and Administration has introduced a pre-entry certificate for South Africans applying for a job in the Senior Management Service (SMS).<\/p>\n<p>In a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpsa.gov.za\/dpsa2g\/documents\/sms\/2019\/sms_29_11_2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">circular<\/a> <\/strong>published in November 2019, the department said that the certificate will be one of the mandatory entry requirements for the service from 1 April 2020.<\/p>\n<p>To get this certificate, applicants are required to complete an online course. The cost of the course is R265 and is expected to take approximately 120 hours to complete.<\/p>\n<p>You can read more about applying for the course and the entry requirements <strong><a earners\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Data published by the Department of Public Service and Administration in October shows that top government managers can earn very competitive salaries.<\/p>\n<p>The minister of public service and administration, Senzo Mchunu, said that national and provincial managers are split into two categories \u2013 middle management service and senior management service.<\/p>\n<p>Mchunu said that these managers are remunerated by means of total cost-to-employer packages, which include the following macro benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employer contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund;<\/li>\n<li>Employer contribution to a registered medical aid scheme;<\/li>\n<li>13th cheque;<\/li>\n<li>Housing benefit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mchunu said the starting level for a middle-management service (MMS) manager at the provincial level is R779,435, rising to R947,802.<\/p>\n<p>Senior management service (SMS) managers can earn anywhere between R1,076,222 and
