{"id":360466,"date":"2019-12-06T12:58:34","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T10:58:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=360466"},"modified":"2019-12-06T13:05:07","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T11:05:07","slug":"eskom-load-shedding-jumps-to-stage-4-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/360466\/eskom-load-shedding-jumps-to-stage-4-on-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom load shedding jumps to stage 4 on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom says it will implement stage 4 load shedding on Friday from 14h00, which is expected to continue through to the early hours of Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Stage 4 allows for as much as 4,000MW (around 10% of the national capacity) to be cut from the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>This follows the power utility having to extend load shedding on Thursday to the early hours of Friday morning, and stage 2 load shedding hitting from 09h00 on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Initially planned for between 16h00 and 23h00 on Thursday, Eskom continued to lose generating capacity during the night, forcing it to extend the load shedding hours.<\/p>\n<p>As the group\u2019s system remains extremely constrained, with unplanned outages exceeding 12,500MW, it will be forced to continue load shedding with extended hours.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom initially said that it was using diesel to ensure the stages do not escalate \u2013 of which is has sufficient supply \u2013 but it was unable to replenish its water resources overnight.
