{"id":36164,"date":"2013-04-19T12:00:44","date_gmt":"2013-04-19T10:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=36164"},"modified":"2013-04-19T12:16:26","modified_gmt":"2013-04-19T10:16:26","slug":"what-mtns-top-dogs-earn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/36164\/what-mtns-top-dogs-earn\/","title":{"rendered":"What MTN\u2019s top dogs earn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"MTN Group\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1640-MTN-Group\">MTN Group<\/a> president and CEO, <a title=\"Sifiso Dabengwa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1729-Sifiso-Dabengwa\">Sifiso Dabengwa<\/a> took home as much as R23.54 million for the year ended December 2012, including a bonus exceeding R13.45 million.<\/p>\n<p>This was revealed at MTN published its annual report on Friday (19 April).<\/p>\n<p>Dabengwa drew a basic salary of R8.4 million &#8211; up from his remuneration of R7.13 million in 2011. During that year, the company chief added a bonus of R14 million to a total wage bill of R22.53 million.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, former CEO <a title=\"Phuthuma Nhleko\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1644-Phuthuma-Nhleko\">Phuthuma Nhleko<\/a> received a parting handshake of R48.8 million.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Nazir Patel\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2280-Nazir-Patel\">Nazir Patel<\/a>, chief financial officer at MTN Group, picked up a total of R13.84 million, including a bonus of R6.43 million, down from R7.47 million in 2011.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36169\" style=\"width: 596px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Distribution-of-wealth.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36169\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36169\" alt=\"Distribution of wealth\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Distribution-of-wealth.png\" width=\"586\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Distribution-of-wealth.png 586w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Distribution-of-wealth-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Distribution-of-wealth-140x102.png 140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-36169\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MTN distribution of wealth<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a title=\"ANC\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2387-ANC-African-National-Congress\">ANC<\/a> deputy president <a title=\"Cyril Ramaphosa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2311-Cyril-Ramaphosa\">Cyril Ramaphosa<\/a>, who stepped down from his position as a non-executive director and chairman of MTN in March, pocketed R1.9 million, while the wage bill for the team of 11 non executives, moved up to R13.21 million, from R12.12 million in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe MTN is in good hands and that the appointment of my successor is progressing responsibly. I wish the group, the board and all MTN employees the best for the future.
