{"id":364464,"date":"2020-01-07T07:33:48","date_gmt":"2020-01-07T05:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=364464"},"modified":"2020-01-07T07:33:48","modified_gmt":"2020-01-07T05:33:48","slug":"here-are-south-africas-ieb-matric-results-for-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/364464\/here-are-south-africas-ieb-matric-results-for-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Here are South Africa&#8217;s IEB matric results for 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Examination Board (IEB) has published its matric results for the class of 2019, with the group achieving a pass rate of 98.82%.<\/p>\n<p>All candidates who passed achieved a rate good enough to enter tertiary study at one of the three levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>89.51% (compared to 90.65% in 2018) of the cohort achieved entry to degree study.<\/li>\n<li>7.91% (compared to 7.33% in 2018) qualified for entry to diploma study.<\/li>\n<li>1.4% (compared to 0.95% in 2018) achieved entry for study at the Higher Certificate level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As many as 11,818 full-time and 779 part-time candidates from 227 examination centres across Southern Africa wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in October and November 2019.<\/p>\n<p>This represnted an increase from 2018 when there were 11,514 full-time candidates, and 858 part-time candidates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advanced Programmes 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Advanced Programme courses are extension courses in Mathematics, English, and Afrikaans. Students attending either state or independent schools can choose to take this qualification.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment is considered to be equivalent to the UK\u2019s A-levels.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, 1,351 learners from IEB schools and 993 learners in state schools studied AP Mathematics. 67.36% achieved a pass above 40%, the IEB said.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 624 learners who studied AP English, 93.86% achieved a pass mark of 50% or above.
