{"id":365626,"date":"2020-01-13T08:16:28","date_gmt":"2020-01-13T06:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=365626"},"modified":"2020-01-13T08:16:28","modified_gmt":"2020-01-13T06:16:28","slug":"these-are-the-best-and-worst-mobile-networks-in-south-africa-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/365626\/these-are-the-best-and-worst-mobile-networks-in-south-africa-2\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the best and worst mobile networks in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MyBroadband Insights has released its Q4 2019 Mobile Network Quality Report, showing that MTN has the best mobile network in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The report is based on 310,649 speed tests which were performed by thousands of MyBroadband Android Speed Test App users across South Africa between 1 October and 31 December 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The research shows that South Africa had an average mobile download speed of 26.73Mbps and an average upload speed of 9.53Mbps.<\/p>\n<p>MTN had the highest average download speed at 40.64Mbps, followed by Vodacom on 32.23Mbps, Telkom on 21.63Mbps, Rain on 16.44Mbps, and Cell C on 16.48Mbps.<\/p>\n<p>MTN reigned supreme with a Network Quality Score of 9.85, followed by Vodacom on 8.01, Rain on 5.58, Telkom on 5.32, and Cell C on 4.91.<\/p>\n<p>The table below provides an overview of the mobile network rankings in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Mobile.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-365628 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Mobile.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"776\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Mobile.png 776w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Mobile-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Mobile-768x395.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Operator.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-365630 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Operator.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Operator.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Operator-300x155.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The MyBroadband Network Quality Report is based on results from MyBroadband\u2019s Android Speed Test App which were recorded between 1 October 2019 and 31 December 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The download speed (60%), upload speed (20%), and latency (20%) are used to calculate a Network Quality Score. The network score is a value which shows the relative performance of networks, with a maximum score of 10.
