While most of us are content with a couple of nights near the sea,\u00a0 a weekend away with the family camping in the wilderness – or perhaps have gotten used to the idea of a “stay-cation” to save a few rands – there are a select few who live it up in the lap of luxury.<\/p>\n

That means staying at some of the most exclusive – and expensive – hotels the world has to offer. Hotels which are a far-stretch from the meager R39,163 you can expect to pay to stay overnight in the Presedential Suite at the 12 Apostles hotel in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

All the hotels listed below were highlighted by CNN Travel as the most expensive hotels in the world; however, the true per-night cost is impacted by various factors – such as time of year and prominent events being held – as well as other bells and whistles that may be added to the mix.<\/p>\n

The Raj Palac Hotel’s Presidential Suite – called the\u00a0Maharajah’s Pavilion – is a four floor apartment catering for the royalty inside all of us. Or rather, those who can afford the hefty overnight rate.<\/p>\n

The Pavilion has a private elevator connecting all four floors, covering a total area of 16,000 square feet (1,500 square metres). It has four bedrooms with a private roof top terrace with panoramic view of the city and, of course, a jacuzzi.<\/p>\n

In 2012, CNN listed an overnight stay at the hotel costing as much as $45,000.<\/p>\n

Hotel Martinez in Cannes, France, is a popular destination for celebrities and other big cheeses who attend the city’s annual film festival. The hoter’s penthouse suite is a 180 square metre two-bedroom apartment appointed with two king beds, a living room and dining room.<\/p>\n

There’s also a private, 290 square metre terrace which has a jacuzzi and gives those fortunate and wealthy enough to stay over a view of the Bay of Cannes.<\/p>\n

The hotel’s prices fluctuate depending on the time of year (ie, while the Cannes Film Festival is on), with the penthouse suite rate hitting as high as $37,500 per night, According to CNN Travel.<\/p>\n

Probably one of the most well-known hotels in the world, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai – the worlds first “seven star” hotel – is also one of the most expensive. Indeed, the hotel’s cheapest room goes for over $2,900 a night (R26,000) – so you know you’re in for a luxurious time.<\/p>\n

The Burj Al Arab’s Royal Suite is rather extravagant: accessed by a personal elevator, the suite offers two sea-viewing lounges and enough space to host an event – entertaining guests at the large dining table or,perhaps, the private cinema.<\/p>\n

If that isn’t opulent enough, the suite comes with a fleet of private butlers, a pillow menu (with a selection of 13 different pillows) – and the bed rotates.<\/p>\n

The Four Seasons Hotel in New York features one of the most expensive hotel suites in the USA – the Ty Warner Penthouse.<\/p>\n

The multi-room, 400-square-metre penthouse offers a lot of room, with its cathedral ceilings, diamond skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows. Guests have access to a 24-hour personal butler, a Rolls-Royce chauffeur, an art concierge, a personal trainer, all-inclusive access to the Spa and dining venues, and unlimited international telephone calls.<\/p>\n

According to CNN Travel, the nine-room suite is the brainchild of designer, Peter Marino, architect, IM Pei, and the hotel’s owner, Ty Warner (the billionaire creator of the Beanie Babies).<\/p>\n

Some hotels have suites – others have villas. Such is the case with Grand Resort Lagonissi’s Royal Villa, which offers a lot more than its two master bedrooms in the lap of luxury. Like an indoor pool. And an outdoor pool. And a nearby beach.<\/p>\n

Guests will also be treated to their own personal chef and a butler at their beck and call. Even the butler has his own quarters, which includes a room with separate entrance and a marble lined bathroom.<\/p>\n

The Royal villa also has a business center with wired and wireless high-speed Internet access, laptop, fax machine, printer, scanner and a video phone. Not too bad for just under R430,000 a night.<\/p>\n

Widely cited as the most expensive hotel room in the world, the Royal Penthouse at the President Wilson Hotel in Geneva is primed to host world leaders and security conscious celebrities who have a taste for all things luxury.<\/p>\n

The 12 bedroom suite offers tight security with bulletproof windows giving a panoramic view of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. The suite takes up the entire top floor of the hotel and comes with a host of add-ons such as billiards, a Steinway grand piano, fitness center, private elevator.<\/p>\n

While recent listings place the per-night rate of the suite at $53,000, a stay has cost as much as $65,000.<\/p>\n
