{"id":373026,"date":"2020-02-11T14:53:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T12:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=373026"},"modified":"2020-02-11T14:53:45","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T12:53:45","slug":"south-africans-are-using-almost-half-their-salaries-to-pay-off-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/373026\/south-africans-are-using-almost-half-their-salaries-to-pay-off-debt\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africans are using almost half their salaries to pay off debt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PayProp, the country\u2019s largest processor of residential letting transactions, has released new data showing how much South Africans spend on rent and debt repayments each month.<\/p>\n<p>The group&#8217;s statistics show that there is a growing gap between men and women, with males typically out-earning females across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Payprop said that women pay just over R7,500 in rent each month, while men spend just under R8,500 on this expense category.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, both men and women spend substantially more on debt repayments each month, the group said.<\/p>\n<p>Men spend <strong>47% of their income on debt<\/strong>, leaving 25% as disposable income after debt and rent repayments.
