{"id":373416,"date":"2020-02-23T07:00:16","date_gmt":"2020-02-23T05:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=373416"},"modified":"2020-02-21T15:13:32","modified_gmt":"2020-02-21T13:13:32","slug":"new-case-deals-with-a-south-african-who-lost-r30000-to-sim-swap-fraud-heres-what-happened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/373416\/new-case-deals-with-a-south-african-who-lost-r30000-to-sim-swap-fraud-heres-what-happened\/","title":{"rendered":"New case deals with a South African who lost R30,000 to SIM-swap fraud &#8211; here&#8217;s what happened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ombudsman for Banking Services (OBS) has outlined a recent case where a South African woman lost over R30,000 to SIM-swap fraud.<\/p>\n<p>The case centred around a complainant who when she discovered that her phone was dead,\u00a0contacted her telecommunication service provider and was advised that she needed to replace her SIM card, which she did.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She then discovered from her bank app that her account had been depleted.
