{"id":373578,"date":"2020-02-12T15:11:07","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T13:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=373578"},"modified":"2020-02-12T15:11:07","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T13:11:07","slug":"nedbank-customers-can-now-use-samsung-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/373578\/nedbank-customers-can-now-use-samsung-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"Nedbank customers can now use Samsung Pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung has announced that Nedbank is the latest South African bank to join as a partner for Samsung Pay.<\/p>\n<p>The group announced at the Samsung Unpacked 2020 event that Nedbank has now joined its growing network of partners, allowing the bank&#8217;s customers to make use of the service for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Samsung Pay will go over 70% coverage of all the bank cards in South Africa,&#8221; the group said, in announcing the partnership with Nedbank.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Introducing a new bank to our <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SamsungPay?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SamsungPay<\/a> family, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Nedbank?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Nedbank<\/a> \ud83d\ude00\ud83d\ude4c ^KM <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Elb7CPv2Ky\">https:\/\/t.co\/Elb7CPv2Ky<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Samsung Mobile SA (@SamsungMobileSA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SamsungMobileSA\/status\/1227306767807373314?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 11, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Samsung\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/banking\/272747-samsung-pay-officially-launches-in-south-africa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>launched its mobile payment app<\/strong><\/a> in South Africa in August 2018, following a brief early access period.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Pay is a payment app which is available for selected Samsung Galaxy smartphones, allowing users to make card payments with their phone instead of their physical bank cards.<\/p>\n<p>The platform leverages a pair of useful technologies to facilitate these transactions \u2013 NFC and MST.<\/p>\n<p>At launch the service worked with Standard Bank and Absa bank cards, with FNB joining in March 2019.
