{"id":374736,"date":"2020-02-17T17:19:07","date_gmt":"2020-02-17T15:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=374736"},"modified":"2020-02-25T08:42:05","modified_gmt":"2020-02-25T06:42:05","slug":"rand-takes-a-hit-as-moodys-slashes-south-africas-growth-outlook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/374736\/rand-takes-a-hit-as-moodys-slashes-south-africas-growth-outlook\/","title":{"rendered":"Rand takes a hit as Moody&#8217;s slashes South Africa&#8217;s growth outlook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ratings agency Moody&#8217;s has joined other financial analysts in cutting South Africa&#8217;s growth outlook for 2020 to below 1%, sending the rand back above R15 to the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>The rand declined as much as 0.7% to trade above R15 per dollar for the first time in a week, Bloomberg reported.<\/p>\n<p>Citing an economic slow-down based in low demand, widespread power outages, and the subsequent impact on key industries like mining and manufacturing, the group now sees South Africa&#8217;s 2020 GDP growth levels at just 0.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Moody\u2019s\u00a0 is scheduled to review South Africa\u2019s Baa3 credit rating in March.
