{"id":37999,"date":"2013-05-17T11:27:03","date_gmt":"2013-05-17T09:27:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=37999"},"modified":"2013-05-17T11:38:09","modified_gmt":"2013-05-17T09:38:09","slug":"broadband-infraco-to-boost-limpopo-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/broadband\/37999\/broadband-infraco-to-boost-limpopo-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Broadband Infraco to boost Limpopo network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband Infraco and the provincial government of Limpopo Province have partnered to make major network upgrades in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.<\/p>\n<p>According to Broadband Infraco CEO Puleng\u00a0Kwele, the company is investing in upgrading its telecoms infrastructure in its Northern Ring Capacity Upgrade Project, which will cover both Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to deploy 40Gbps technology in the Northern Ring for transmission of telecoms services over fibre.<\/p>\n<p>The new link will run parallel to the already-existing 10Gbps link, and will be scalable in multiples of 40Gbps to address current and future capacity requirements, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very excited to work with the Limpopo Province, renowned for its pioneering work in rolling out its Information Society and Knowledge Economy development roadmap,&#8221;\u00a0said Kwele.<\/p>\n<p>The new public-to-public partnership with the Limpopo provincial government will facilitate the deployment of the Limpopo broadband network, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the total capacity in the Northern Ring is at 160Gbps; once the project is completed, the Northern Ring capacity will be boosted to 480Gbps.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Ring extends from Gauteng to Polokwane via Soekmekaar and Tzaneen towards Hoedspruit then Nelspruit.
