A recent carrier update from\u00a0Apple<\/a>\u00a0enabled Long Term Evolution (LTE<\/a>) support for the\u00a0iPhone 5<\/a>\u00a0on the\u00a0Cell C<\/a>\u00a0network, but the operator is not yet ready to commercially launch the service.<\/p>\n

In a statement on the MyBroadband forum, a Cell C representative said: \u201cCell C will notify customers when the company launches LTE to its general customer base.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked for more details, Cell C said that it has no timeframe for their LTE launch just yet.<\/p>\n

The operator\u2019s spokesperson also explained that once they had launched LTE, subscribers would have to make sure that they have a\u00a0USIM<\/acronym>\u00a0that\u2019s LTE-provisioned to use the LTE network.<\/p>\n

In April,\u00a0Cell C<\/a>\u00a0CEO\u00a0Alan Knott-Craig<\/a>, said that the group\u00a0has grown its network coverage to 97% of the South African population, with over 4,000 base stations around the country.<\/p>\n

Knott-Craig told MyBroadband that Cell C currently has around 4,000 cellular sites nationally, of which 3,500 are 42Mbps HSPA enabled (providing a 79% 3G\/HSPA population coverage).<\/p>\n

Cell C also has 100 active LTE sites, with a target to increase this number to 1,000 by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
