{"id":38293,"date":"2013-05-21T14:01:35","date_gmt":"2013-05-21T12:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=38293"},"modified":"2013-05-22T09:27:01","modified_gmt":"2013-05-22T07:27:01","slug":"the-most-valuable-brands-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/38293\/the-most-valuable-brands-in-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"The most valuable brands in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"BrandZ\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/8596-BrandZ\">BrandZ<\/a> has revealed the most valuable brands in world for 2013, showing that tech giant, <a title=\"Apple\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1648-Apple\">Apple<\/a>, has retained its position at numner 1.<\/p>\n<p>According to BrandZ, the top 100 global brands have increased their total value by 9% to a whopping US$2.6 trillion, compared to the flat growth (1%) seen in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s <a title=\"MTN Group\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1640-MTN-Group\">MTN Group<\/a> topped the list as the highest ranked African brand\u00a0at 79th, having boosted its value by 23% and climbing 9 places with a brand value of US$11.448 billion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Modest recovery in developed economies, particularly in the US, drove the positive change in BrandZ 2013. And, despite slower economic expansion, the BRICs continued to propel certain categories, especially luxury,&#8221; the report said.<\/p>\n<p>BrandZ noted that brand value had increased in every category except for technology and oil and gas, which declined slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the decline, however, technology remained the dominant sector, with the top 3 most highly-valued brands coming tech<\/h3>\n<p>Apple increased its brand value by 1% to US$185.071 billion to claim the number one spot, while Internet giant, <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1719-Google\">Google<\/a>, boosted its value by 5% to US$113.669 billion to take second place.<\/p>\n<p>International Business Machines (<a title=\"IBM\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1700-IBM-International-Business-Machines\">IBM<\/a>) &#8211; the former number 2 &#8211; lost 3% of brand value in 2013 and fell to third place at US$112.536 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The world&#8217;s largest Software company, <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1715-Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a>, slipped two position on the list to 7th, having lost 9% of brand value over the year to US$69.814 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Telecoms companies in the top 10 managed to boost brand value significantly, with <a title=\"AT&amp;T\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1634-At-amp-t\">AT&amp;T<\/a> being the top operator with a brand value of US$75.507 billion &#8211; an increase of 10% &#8211; gaining two places to 6th overall.<\/p>\n<p>The only other telecoms operator in the top 10 is <a title=\"China Mobile\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5963-China-Mobile\">China Mobile<\/a>, which boosted brand value by 18% to US$55.368 billion at 10th place.<\/p>\n<p>Global brands such as McDonalds (4th), Coca-Cola (5th), Marlboro (8th) and Visa (9th) round off the non-tech
