On Digital Media (ODM), the parent company of TopTV, lodged a complaint with the Competition Commission several months ago accusing MultiChoice of anti-competitive abuses, TechCentral reported today (24 May 2013).<\/p>\n
According to the report, ODM asked the Commission to refer the matter to the Competition Tribunal and quoted a spokesperson for the Commission as saying that the complaint is still being processed by its screening unit.<\/p>\n
The report went on to outline how ODM explains its attempts to gain access to SuperSport 3 and 4 in its complaint.<\/p>\n
MultiChoice are accused refusing TopTV access to its SuperSport channels and offering a stripped-down sports channel instead that would only feature two live soccer games per week from a secondary league (La Liga).<\/p>\n
Talks around this channel reportedly broke down shortly before the launch of TopTV.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson from TopTV was not immediately available to verify the details around the complaint.<\/p>\n
