{"id":38782,"date":"2013-05-28T10:31:46","date_gmt":"2013-05-28T08:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=38782"},"modified":"2013-05-28T10:52:28","modified_gmt":"2013-05-28T08:52:28","slug":"what-talent-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/38782\/what-talent-shortage\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s got talent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New research conducted by recruitment firm <a title=\"ManpowerGroup\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/8690-ManpowerGroup\">ManpowerGroup<\/a> finds that South Africa is among the countries, globally, who have the least difficulty in sourcing the required talent for positions.<\/p>\n<p>ManpowerGroup surveyed over 38,618 employers across 42 countries and territories for its annual Talent Shortage Survey finding that one in three respondents reported difficulty filling positions as a result of a lack of suitable candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The 35% who report shortages represents the highest proportion since 2007, just prior to the global recession. However, South Africa, at 6% is only behind Spain and Ireland (both\u00a0 at 3%) in terms of the percentage of respondents who have had difficulty in filling jobs.<\/p>\n<p>In South Africa, the percentage of people reporting difficulty filling jobs, is down from 10% in 2012, 14% in 2011, and 16% in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>ManPower Group stressed that the degree of difficulty employers report does not always correspond to a country\u2019s jobless rates, with South Africa\u2019s official jobless rate exceeding 25% currently.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38780\" style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Job-difficulty.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38780\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38780\" alt=\"Difficulty filling jobs\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Job-difficulty.png\" width=\"601\" height=\"538\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-38780\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Difficulty filling jobs<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Employers in the Americas report the most difficulty filling technician posts, while the hardest-to-fill vacancies in Asia Pacific are for sales representatives. EMEA employers report greatest difficulty sourcing skilled trades talent.<\/p>\n<p>According to the 2013 survey results\u2014and for the second consecutive year\u2014the most acute talent shortages are reported in Japan (85%) and Brazil (68%).<\/p>\n<p>The problem is widespread in Asia Pacific, with more than half the employers surveyed in India (61%), Hong Kong (57%) and New Zealand (51%) saying that talent shortages prevent them from hiring people with needed skills.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, employers in many EMEA countries report skills gaps are having less impact on their ability to source suitable candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t particularly surprising given the high unemployment rates reported throughout much of the region,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the inability to source the right recruits remains an issue for employers in some EMEA countries.
