Neotel says it aims to launch the commercial service of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) in September, following a successful trial.<\/p>\n
The group said in November that it had begun trialling its LTE service at its campus in Midrand, achieving speeds in the region of 70Mbps.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday (29 May), Neotel CEO told journalists that the group is currently in the process of implementing LTE infrastructure. \u201cIt is no longer a trial, we should be up and running in the second half of the second quarter(September),\u201d Joshi said.<\/p>\n
The company chief said that Neotel would start its commercial offering in a concentrated area in Gauteng, using 50 base stations, using the 1800MHz frequency.<\/p>\n
Neotel said on Wednesday that it currently serves 3,000 business clients and 152,000 consumers.<\/p>\n
Joshi said that Neotel had trenched 8,000 kilometres of its own metro fibre, reaching 4,200 companies, having invested R500 million in capex in in FY2013, and adding to its total of R5 billion in infrastructure since inception.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the period under review we invested more than R500 million in capital expenditure, and now have access to over 15,000km of national long distance fibre and approximately 8,000km of fibre in major metros,\u201d Joshi said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Neotel said that the group would spend approximately R500 million in capex in the coming year.<\/p>\n
