{"id":391467,"date":"2020-04-22T07:36:41","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T05:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=391467"},"modified":"2020-04-22T07:39:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-22T05:39:41","slug":"government-explains-why-it-banned-the-sale-of-hot-foods-during-south-africas-lockdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/391467\/government-explains-why-it-banned-the-sale-of-hot-foods-during-south-africas-lockdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Government explains why it banned the sale of hot foods during South Africa&#8217;s lockdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has explained government&#8217;s decision to ban the sale of &#8216;hot foods&#8217; during South Africa&#8217;s coronavirus lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The amended regulations emphasize government commitment to implementing measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus,&#8221; Dlamini Zuma said in a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogta.gov.za\/?p=7953\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> <\/strong>on Tuesday evening (21 April)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to strengthen the regulations in order to <strong>decrease the frequent movement of people<\/strong> and this has necessitated the need to restrict the sale of hot cooked food during the period of the lockdown\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n<p>She expanded on this in a virtual parliamentary meeting held on Tuesday, in which she indicated that the sale of hot foods would lead to an uptick in people leaving their homes each day to buy foods, negating the\u00a0entire point of the lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we allow hot foods all the shops will sell it.
