Suspended SABC head of news, Phil Molefe, has left the broadcaster after receiving a reported R1.5 million golden handshake as part of a settlement.<\/p>\n
Molefe reached a settlement with the interim SABC board, which the Sunday Independent reported includes that he would drop his ongoing case against the broadcaster.<\/p>\n
SABC spokesman, Kaizer Kganyago, confirmed that an agreement had been reached, but did not comment on the details.<\/p>\n
Molefe was placed on special leave on April 10 last year. At the time, the SABC said the leave was a human resources policy matter, and had nothing to do with his alleged political allegiances.<\/p>\n
When the announcement about Molefe was made, the African National Congress Youth League claimed the SABC was targeting him because he had given its now expelled president Julius Malema \u201ctoo much airtime\u201d.<\/p>\n
Molefe was paid full benefits amounting to R2.2 million while suspended.<\/p>\n
The SABC has been in free-fall for a number of months, shedding 245 employees and the National Treasurey projecting a R616 million loss for the broadcaster in the 2012\/13 financial year.<\/p>\n
It was reported that the SABC had requested an additional R7.3 billion from communications minister Dina Pule for its digital operations, but only managed to get R140 million.<\/p>\n
